What is an Allied Health Assistant (AHA)?

An Allied Health Assistant (AHA) works alongside qualified health professionals, like Occupational Therapists (OTs) and Speech Pathologists (SLPs), to support therapy and help clients reach their goals.

At LS Health Services, our AHAs are supervised by our registered Speech Pathologists and Occupational Therapists. The AHAs can deliver the therapy plan created by your therapist, providing extra support to help you practice and succeed.

 What Our AHAs can Do?

Our AHAs can support therapy in areas where your therapist decides it’s appropriate. Some examples include:

  • Speech therapy support:

    • Literacy (children and adults)

    • Narrative language/storytelling

    • Articulation/clarity of speech

    • Dysarthria support

    • Aphasia support

  • Occupational therapy support:

    • Fine motor skills

    • Gross motor skills

    • Handwriting

    • Primitive Reflex Integration exercises

What Our AHAs Cannot Do

Allied Health Assistants are not qualified to:

  • Conduct assessments or testing

  • Write reports (NDIS or others)

  • Diagnose or provide differential diagnosis

  • Plan therapy or change goals set by the therapist

  • Work with complex clients requiring specialized OT or Speech training
